FOR HF OPERATION THE YAESU FTdx1200

YAESU FTdx1200

Purchased new in July 2015 when I decided to forage back into the amateur radio hobby. For 10 years prior I pursued other hobbies but kept an old Yaesu FT-757GX for listening (shown immediately below). The rig finally gave up, no display, no transmit and other issues so it went to the bone pile but I salvaged the Yaesu emblem off of it. I bought that rig used from a dealer in Minnesota back in 1986 and he overnighted it to me in Dallas, Texas where we were visiting so I could talk to my brother on the way home from our 3 week visit.

On a wild hair day I asked the XYL if she wanted to make a run up to Amateur Electronic Supply (4.5 hours away) to look at a new HF rig. She was on board so off to Milwaukee, Wisconsin it was. It was a great trip and about $3,015 later we were back on the road going home again. A new Yaesu FTdx1200 HF rig, Hy-Gain CD-45-II rotator, Cushcraft MA-5 Beam, Ameritron 4 position coax switch, some RG8U coax, baluns & egg insulators were in the bed of our truck. It was a long ride back home wanting to get everything unpacked and hooked up.

 YAESU FT-757GX

There were a lot of big changes from the old Ft-757GX to the FTdx1200.

I decided to add an HF amplifier to the shack so I purchased a used one through KØBPG while attending the Cedar Rapids Hamfest held in Central City fairgrounds August of 2018. Mike was selling it for an estate along with other equipment. Along with the amp I bought the Ten-Tec Model 238A antenna tuner from him. I sold the 238A in 2024.
